Roastery Update
A Note from Aakash Chandarana, Chief Steward and Coffee Roaster:
Welcome to the August 2026 News Letter.
At the outset I am so grateful to those of you that decided to participate in Kavanah’s first ever allotment. Collectively we smashed my expectations. I had prepared to roast about 20 total bags of coffee. Instead, I got the opportunity to roast 35 bags of coffee, which resulted in $170 raised for missional work. We are well on the way of my goal to raise $1,000 this year for missional work.
I also have several fun updates to share. First, the Kavanah website is now live. Going forward you can place and pay for orders there. I hope this makes the ordering process much simpler and smoother. Also, the website (I hope) will provide an easy way to share the Kavanah story and journey with your friends, Second, I joined a mentorship group run by Rob Hoos, who is a leading coffee roasting expert and consultant. Rob is going to taste my Dark Roast this month to provide guidance and feedback. Lastly, I began conversations about what I hope will ultimately be a mission trip to the Dominican Republic.
Thank you for being part of this journey. I can’t wait to share more about our growth in the coming months. I look forward to sharing great coffee and meaningful impact with you in the months ahead.
TASTING NOTES FOR THIS MONTH'S ROASTS
LIGHT ROAST
Blueberry • Bright • Floral
This month we are going to continue showcasing a single origin coffee from the Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia.
This coffee on light showcases vibrant notes of blueberry and floral aromatics. This is balanced by a clean, bright finish, creating a lively and memorable cup.
DARK ROAST
Chocolate • Robust • Smoky
This month we are going to showcase a single origin coffee from the Dominican Republic. I have been roasting this coffee for almost two years.
The estate owners share a lot of the values Kavanah holds dear such as paying employees more than a living wage, and donating profits to their local community.
